Composite resins are tooth-colored, plastic materials (made of glass fillers for strength and resin) that are used both as fillings and to repair defects in the teeth. Because they are tooth-colored, it is difficult to distinguish them from natural teeth. Composites are often used on the front teeth where a natural appearance is important. They can be used on the back teeth as well depending on the location and extent of the tooth decay. One advantage of composites is they are bonded to the surrounding tooth structure, sealing out saliva and bacteria and safeguarding against future decay.

Member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, an organization dedicated to Biological Dentistry. Biological dentists recognize the impact of toxic materials and relate it to dental and physiological health. These dentists are concerned with the integrity of the oral cavity and use materials and procedures in their practices that are systemically compatible.
